元宵节（the Lantern Festival）来了，继春节之后来临的它也是源远流长，又一道引起南北大战的题目来了：元宵好吃还是汤圆好吃？
我们常说的汤圆（Tang Yuan：glutinous rice ball/ boiled rice dumpling）和元宵（Yuanxiao：rice glue ball/ sweet dumpling）并不是一个物种。
在北方，这群圆滚滚的小胖子被称为元宵，在南方则是汤圆。
这两种食物到底哪里不一样呢？
工艺不同
元宵是“摇”出来的，馅料切成小方块，放入盛满糯米粉glutinous rice flour的簸箕里摇，边摇边洒水，直到成型；元宵的口感比较劲道。

汤圆是“包”出来的，糯米加水和团，像包饺子一样加入馅料（也可以不加馅），揉成圆球；汤圆的口感比较软糯。
Tangyuan or tang yuan is a Chinese dessert made from glutinous rice flour mixed with a small amount of water to form balls and then cooked and served in boiling water or sweet syrup. Tangyuan can be either small or large, and filled or unfilled.

元宵馅多为豆沙、芝麻、山楂等种类。煮后汤比较浓，表皮松软，馅料硬实有“咬劲”，果香和米香浓郁。
汤圆的馅甜，咸、荤、素都有，汤比较清亮，皮面润滑，馅儿流动性很好。
