粽子(zongzi)是端午节流行的食物。粽子是由粽叶包裹糯米,再包裹肉、花生、蛋黄等食物。这个传统来自汨罗江上的渔民,他们将粽子扔入河中,以防止鱼虾吃掉屈原的身体。在西方,它们也被称为粽子(rice dumplings)。

剑桥词典中的英文释义是:a small ball of dough (= flour and water mixed together), cooked, and eaten with meat and vegetables,意思是面粉和水混合而成的面团。
中国的“饺子”正是一种面粉裹馅的食品,属于 dumpling 的范畴。中国的“粽子”则可以称为rice dumpling.
